The Dawgs Got Bit, the Falcons Got Mauled, and Atlanta’s Ladies Came to Play!

Well, y’all, I don’t know who ordered this past weekend’s football results, but I’d sure like to have a word with them!

Between Georgia getting upset, the Falcons digging themselves another hole, and our Villa Rica Wildcats taking a much-needed break, I was beginning to wonder if I ought to find myself another hobby.

Then I remembered the Carrollton Trojans.

And honey, thank goodness somebody around here remembered how to win a football game!

But before we’re finished, I’ve got something special to tell y’all about the ladies of Atlanta. Because while some of our football teams were struggling, the Atlanta Dream was busy making a little history of its own.

Friday Night Lights: Carrollton Keeps Rolling

Those Carrollton Trojans just keep finding ways to impress!

Friday night, they defeated Northgate 62–13, improving their record to a perfect 8–0.

Eight wins. Zero losses.

Now that’s something to celebrate!

Our Villa Rica Wildcats enjoyed a bye week after a couple of tough games. They’re sitting at 5–3 and preparing to take on Dalton this Friday.

And before anybody starts worrying about our Wildcats, remember that a week to rest, regroup, and get healthy can be just what a football team needs.

Besides, you know what they say: you can’t win every Friday night, but you can certainly show up ready to fight the next one.

Go Wildcats!

Saturday: Somebody Forgot to Tell Auburn They Were Supposed to Lose

Now, let’s discuss what happened between the hedges.

The Georgia Bulldogs welcomed Auburn to Athens on Saturday, and most of us were expecting another Bulldog victory.

Apparently, Auburn didn’t receive that memo.

The Tigers walked into Sanford Stadium and handed top-ranked Georgia its first loss of the season, 27–24, on a field goal as time expired.

A last-second field goal!

Lord, have mercy.

Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns, but three turnovers proved costly.

The Bulldogs fell to 6–1, and suddenly the college football rankings were looking a whole lot different.

Now, I’m not about to abandon my Dawgs over one loss. That’s not how we do things around here.

But I will say this: if Zsa Zsa had been calling the plays, she probably would’ve suggested hanging on to the football.

She may chase her tail occasionally, but at least she knows not to drop her favorite toy.

Sunday: The Falcons Nearly Gave Us Hope

And then came Sunday.

The Atlanta Falcons welcomed the Chicago Bears to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and things got ugly in a hurry.

Chicago jumped out to a big lead, and by the fourth quarter, Atlanta was trailing 31–7.

At that point, I was seriously considering taking Zsa Zsa for a walk.

A very long walk.

But wouldn’t you know it? Those Falcons decided to make things interesting.

Michael Penix Jr. connected with Kyle Pitts for two fourth-quarter touchdowns, helping Atlanta cut the lead to eight.

Suddenly, there was hope!

Unfortunately, hope doesn’t always put points on the scoreboard.

The Bears held on for a 31–23 victory, dropping Atlanta to 2–4.

And somewhere in Georgia, I imagine a whole lot of Falcons fans were staring at their televisions, wondering why we keep putting ourselves through this.

But we’ll be back next Sunday

We always are.

Now, Let’s Talk About the Ladies!

While our football teams were giving us headaches, the Atlanta Dream was making history!

The Dream is battling the Golden State Valkyries in the WNBA Finals, and after dropping Game 1, Atlanta came roaring back Monday night with a 79–65 victory.

And honey, Angel Reese came to PLAY!

Reese finished with 30 points and 16 rebounds, helping Atlanta earn its first-ever WNBA Finals game victory.

Rhyne Howard added a little history of her own, recording six steals to set a Finals record.

Now that’s what I call showing up when it matters!

And the ladies aren’t just making headlines for their basketball.

Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham recently spoke up about the scheduling and venue complications surrounding Atlanta’s Finals games.

Sophie argued that both the Dream and Valkyries deserve better treatment and more respect from the league.

And you know something?

I agree with the bigger point.

These women have worked hard, played their hearts out, and earned their place on basketball’s biggest stage.

They deserve the opportunity to shine.

You don’t have to wear the same jersey to recognize when somebody deserves respect.

As for Caitlin Clark, I haven’t seen a verified recent statement from her specifically about this Finals matchup, so I’m not about to put words in that young lady’s mouth.

But I will say this: women’s basketball is giving fans plenty to talk about, and that’s a wonderful thing for the sport.

The Finals are tied 1–1 heading into Wednesday night’s Game 3 in Atlanta.

The Dream Is Alive in Atlanta!

Well, y’all, somebody better put another pot of coffee on, because the Atlanta Dream have given us something to holler about!

Wednesday night, our Georgia girls took care of business at State Farm Arena, defeating the Golden State Valkyries 97–71 and grabbing a 2–1 lead in the WNBA Finals.

And Angel Reese? Honey, she came to WORK!

After 30 points and 16 rebounds in Game 2, Reese followed up with another double-double Wednesday night, finishing with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Now the Dream are just two wins away from bringing home their first WNBA championship!

But CP isn’t counting chickens before they hatch. Golden State didn’t make it this far by accident, and you can bet they’ll come looking for revenge Saturday.

Game 4 tips off Saturday, October 24, at 1 p.m. Eastern in Atlanta.

All I can say is, Georgia sports fans, we’ve got ourselves another reason to gather around the television!

And I’ll be cheering for our Georgia girls!

Win or Lose, There’s Always Next Week

So, let’s review.

Carrollton keeps winning.

Villa Rica gets ready to come back swinging.

Georgia learned that nobody is guaranteed a victory.

The Falcons reminded us that being a football fan requires patience.

And the Atlanta Dream showed us that sometimes the biggest story of the weekend doesn’t involve a football at all.

That’s what I love about sports.

There’s always another game, another opportunity, and another team ready to surprise us.

Until next Thursday—

Go Wildcats! Go Trojans! Go Dawgs! Rise Up! And let’s go, Dream!

🐾 Zsa Zsa’s Sideline Tip

You know what football teams and small businesses have in common?

Neither one wins by waiting until the final seconds to figure out the game plan!

With year-end approaching, now’s the time to get those receipts organized, accounts reconciled, and financial records ready for your CPA.

Don’t wait until the fourth quarter is over to discover you’ve fumbled the paperwork!
